If you’ve stumbled across my socials, you’ve probably asked, “What made her get into these kinds of products?”
Well, the short answer is clean ingredients. After I was diagnosed and beat a rare blood cancer, with two young daughters, my husband and I knew we needed to change our exposure level to toxins and harsh chemicals. I started looking into all of the products we used on our bodies and around our home, checking them against the EWG database for clean ratings. Of course, most of them came back full of toxins and harsh chemicals, so they were swapped. It was a slow start, because it’s costly and we couldn’t toss it all and buy brand new products.
The idea of creating bath bombs that didn’t contain a large number of ingredients, simplifying what we were exposing ourselves and our babies to, was important. That’s when H&H Natural Products was born, in 2019. I had dabbled before this, back to 2017, but it was mostly for myself and Christmas gifts. I started creating more products slowly, branching into shower steamers, bubble bath, and body wash.
Fast forward to 2021, we moved provinces which came with immense benefits. We own 17 acres of natural, medicinal herbs, plants, and flowers. Slowly, I’ve been building my supply of flowers – Peonies, Lavender – and I’ll continue to expand. I’m hoping to grow Eucalyptus, Echinacea, Calendula, and likely Chamomile. These all make great additions to products and they each pose their own benefit when soaked in or applied to the skin!
I started researching product expansion, but not just products, multi-purpose products. Where did I want to go? What kind of products fit my business? What products will I use daily? What products will sell in my area? What products could be multi-purpose? Slowly, the answers have been coming to me through each and every review I receive, or each purchase made.
My Lip Balm, for example, has been used to treat ezcema and cold sores in addition to regular use for healthy lips. My Feet in the Grass (Itch Relief) has been used on wasp stings and bites, mosquito bites, and spider bites, relieving swelling and discomfort – it was originally created because I react terribly to mosquito bites and so do our daughters. Head in the Clouds is a light weight, nutritious and nourishing after sun cream that has been amazing for many as a face moisturizer!
This winter, I will be starting a program to get my Naturopathy Diploma, and a second course for my Aromatherapy Diploma. I will have products backed by education, in addition to this, I have taken several courses on Herbalism, to start making natural salves!
You see, what started as a hobby initially, has quickly become a passion. If you couple a passion for knowledge with a passion for creativity, you get clean ingredients products that look and smell divine! I pour my heart and soul into my products and the ingredients, pouring hours of extensive deep dives to ensure I’m sourcing ingredients within Canada and local businesses where I can.
